Daimler likely to retain Maybach brand if right partner is found
CEO Zetsche confirms talks with Aston Martin

STUTTGART -- Daimler AG is likely to keep its slow-selling ultraluxury Maybach brand if a partner is found. The company will make a decision by June 30, CEO Dieter Zetsche said.
Zetsche confirmed that Daimler has been in discussions with Aston Martin for the development and production of a second-generation Maybach.
"There is a higher likelihood to come to a positive decision" for a second-generation Maybach sedan if a partner is involved, Zetsche told Automotive News Europe on the sidelines of the launch of the new M class SUV in Stuttgart last week.
Maybach's future has been under a cloud as sales of the brand's only model, a super-luxury sedan, have slumped.
Maybach produced 157 cars last year, according to IHS Automotive. Daimler's Mercedes-Benz had expected to sell 1,500 Maybachs annually.
