WOLFSBURG, Germany -- Volkswagen has set key production targets for the new Golf.

The automaker will begin Golf production at its German factories in Wolfsburg and Zwickau in early August.

Both factories will use the three-week summer holidays to convert their production processes to the modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform. The new Golf is the second Volkswagen Group vehicle based on the new architecture, following the Audi A3

VW will begin sales and servicing training for dealers mid-September ahead of the Golf's market launch in Europe in November.

The Golf has its public debut at the Paris auto show in late September.
