U.S. dealers say they can't keep up with demand for the Range Rover Evoque -- the reigning North American Truck of the Year -- so Land Rover is stepping up production of the compact SUV in Halewood, England.

Andy Goss, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America, said the United States will get about 1,000 Evoques a month starting in September, up from about 750 currently.

The Evoque went on sale in the United States last October, and there have been shortages in several markets.

"It has been tough on the network," Goss said.

Land Rover sold 4,355 Evoques in the first six months of 2012 and 2,244 last year.

Despite the Evoque shortage and the run-out of the Range Rover SUV, Land Rover sales were up 21 percent from January through June. Goss said he expects sales to continue at that rate through the end of the year. Last year, Land Rover sold 38,099 vehicles in the United States.

Goss said the redesigned Range Rover will debut in the first quarter of 2013.
