Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is not based on any existing Mercedes model. The two-seat car replaces the SLS McLaren and has been conceived, designed and engineered by AMG, the carmakeršs in-house tuning division.
Besides the gullwing doors, the car's long hood, short overhangs and low greenhouse are all intended to remind one of the classic 1950s 300 SL Gullwing Coupe.
The SLS uses an aluminum spaceframe body; an AMG-built 6.3-liter, front-mid mounted, 563-hp, V8; a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle transmission (Mercedes' first), and aluminum double-wishbone suspension.
Mercedes says it is a combination that guarantees supreme handling dynamics.
The car goes on sale in the spring with prices expected to start at 177,300 euros in its German home market and at $200,000 in the United States.
