Opel Ampera Opel showed its Ampera plug-in electric car at the Frankfurt auto show. The five-door hatchback is a sister model to the Chevrolet Volt and uses the extended-range Voltec electric propulsion system planned for the Volt. The Ampera can travel 60km using electric power from its lithium on batteries. A mini gasoline engine that recharges the batteries extends the range to 500km. The Ampera will go on sale in Europe at the end of 2011, a year later than the Volt.
