Hyundai Ix-Onic
The Ix-Onic hints at the replacement for the current Tucson. The new crossover arrives at the end of this year. The concept's previous name, HED, is an acronym for Hyundai European Design, which created the car. It is the sixth concept done by Thomas Burkle and his team at Hyundai's design center in Rüsselsheim. The production model will be built at the Kia factory in Zilina, Slovakia, and will take the new name IX-35. Hyundai will use the IX prefix for all of its SUVs in the future.
Vehicle type: Compact SUV
Engine: 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline
Who designed it? Thomas Saelzle, exterior; Joerg Malerschlea, interior
What's cool: Novel rear-window design made possible by innovative plastics
Will it be built? You bet. Arrives in United States next year as the new Tucson.
Show reaction: Decent. These days everybody seems to go for Hyundai design.
