2014 Automotive News Europe Eurostars

First | Previous | 4 of 14 | Next  | Last

The executives chosen as 2014 Eurostars have risen above the competition by topping expectations.
Dieter Zetsche has given new life to Mercedes-Benz, which is on course to shatter its sales records because of a gutsy and aggressive move into the compact segment.
Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth has guided the British premium brand to new sales and earnings records.
Toyota Europe CEO Didier Leroy has returned the once-struggling unit to profit while also gaining more autonomy from his bosses at headquarters.
Maserati design boss Marco Tencone has penned a string of hits such as the Quattroporte and Ghibli that have helped double sales. The other 10 Eurostars, who were chosen by the editors of Automotive News Europe, have achieved equally impressive results in the face of challenges.

DESIGN EXECUTIVE
Marco Tencone

Marco Tencone, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati Styling Center Coordinator, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

TITLE: Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati Styling Center Coordinator
COMPANY: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
BASED: Turin, Italy
AGE: 47
NATIONALITY: Italian

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Started his current position in 2010. Prior to that he spent six years as head of Lancia design. Has played a role in Lancia’s look and feel since joining Fiat Group in 1993 from Italian design house Pininfarina. Started his automotive career at Pininfarnia in 1988 as a technical planner.

REASON FOR WINNING: Maserati’s sales have doubled, helped by the work Tencone did on the sleek and stylish Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans. The carmaker will get another boost once the Alfieri coupe debuts, likely in 2016. Meanwhile, the rakish 4C has sparked a renewed global interest in Alfa Romeo. Some have referred to the string of hits as an Italian design renaissance. If so, Marco Tencone is the maestro of the revival.
