Carrera GT: The spiritual successor to the 959, the Carrera GT was first seen as a concept at the 2000 Paris auto show. The production version was shown at the 2003 Geneva auto show and its numbers were impressive: 612 hp from a 5.7-liter V-10 engine. Development of the model led to several patents, including the carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic monocoque and subframe, and the ceramic clutch. To make the project economically viable, Porsche estimated it would need to sell 1,000 units. Around 1,300 were built, and quickly became collector’s items. The last one rolled out of the Leipzig plant in May 2006. Photo credit: Autoweek
