550 Spyder: The classic two-seat racer, with its elegant shape and simple design, was first shown at the 1953 Paris auto show. Although small, it was nicknamed “Giant Killer” for defeating more powerful rivals on the track. The model also is tied to a dark moment in pop culture: Hollywood legend James Dean died when he crashed his 550, nicknamed “Little Bastard,” on Sept. 30, 1955. Production on the 550 ended in 1956.
