912: Sharing looks with the 911, the 912 was positioned as a more affordable model when it arrived in 1965. It cost about $1,800 less than the 911 and was powered by a four-cylinder engine. The 912 saw early success, with 6,401 units built in the first year, nearly outselling the 911 by a ratio of 2-to-1. Production ended in 1969, but the 912 reappeared for the 1976 model year as the 912E with a 2.0-liter fuel-injected four cylinder.
