928: Introduced in the U.S. market as a 1978 model, the V-8-powered 928 was offered as the replacement for the 911. But that didn’t happen. Buyers remained more interested in the 911 than in the first water-cooled front-engine Porsche, which became known to some as the “German Corvette.” Production of the 928 ended in 1995.
