Boxster: After appearing as a concept at the 1993 Detroit show, the entry-level sports car went on sale in early 1997 in the U.S. It was Porsche’s first new model in 19 years. It created buzz from the get-go, thanks to its lower price point and a nostalgic design similarity to previous Porsches. The Boxster was also unusual because of Porsche’s decision to build some of the convertibles in Finland, marking the first time a Porsche was built outside Germany since Ferdinand Porsche built his first prototypes in Austria. The company later added a coupe variant, the Cayman, to its lineup.
