Mitsubishi will export Colt convertible outside Europe

TOKYO – Mitsubishi plans to export its Colt CZC coupe cabriolet to markets outside Europe.

Australia and New Zealand will get the CZC, said a Mitsubishi Europe spokesman. Exports to South Africa also are being considered by the Japanese carmaker.

The CZC is built for Mitsubishi by Pininfarina of Italy.

It goes on sale in Europe starting in late May.

The car is a variant of the Colt small-segment car, which is built at Mitsubishi’s NedCar plant in Born, Netherlands.

Mitsubishi wants to sell between 10,000 and 12,000 CZCs in Europe in 2007, the model’s first full year.

The carmaker sold 61,207 Colts in western Europe last year, according to UK-based market researcher JATO Dynamics. The Colt was introduced in 2004.
