LONDON -- Rolls-Royce has promoted Giles Taylor, its head of exterior design, to the role of overall design director.
Taylor, 44, joined Rolls-Royce in 2011 from Jaguar, where he designed the XK sports car and XJ sedan.
Taylor, an Englishman, will take up his new role on July 1 following the retirement of Ian Cameron, who has been Rolls-Royce's design chief since 1999.
As head of exterior design, Taylor had input in the revamped Phantom Series II launched this year at the Geneva auto show. Taylor's next task likely will be to oversee the styling of convertible and coupe versions of the Ghost sedan.
The company wouldn't confirm that the Ghost will get new variants but a spokesman said: "The Ghost lends itself to further model derivatives."
Taylor will report to Adrian van Hooydonk, head of design at Rolls-Royce parent BMW.
