Spanish metal-parts supplier Gestamp Automocion has won local government approval to build a $120 million (764 million yuan) factory in Dongguan in south China's Guangdong province.

Construction will start this month and the plant will launch production in May 2013, according to the municipal government's Web site.

The plant will supply body and chassis components to a Volkswagen assembly plant to be built in the city of Nanhai, as well as an assembly plant which PSA/Peugeot-Citroen will build in Shenzhen.

Gestamp Automocion now operates three plants in China. They are located in Kunshan in east China's Jiangsu province, Shenyang in northeast China's Liaoning province and the southwest China municipality of Chongqing.
