Volvo promotes China sales COO to chief of unit

Volvo Car Corp. has promoted Fu Qiang to president and CEO of its sales company in China, effective Oct. 1.

Fu joined Volvo in May as chief operating officer of its sales company in China. Before that, he was sales chief of Beijing Benz Automotive Co., a joint venture between Daimler and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp.

Fu will replace Richard Snijders, who will return to the Swedish brand's European business, according to Volvo. Volvo is owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. of China.

Volvo sold 26,253 cars in China in the first seven months of this year, up 21 percent year-on-year, according to LMC Automotive.
