DETROIT -- Veteran journalist and former Automotive News staff member Kathy Jackson, 62, will receive the 2013 Urban Wheel Lifetime Achievement Award.
Peter Brown, publisher of Automotive News, will present the award to Jackson at the 17th Annual Urban Wheel Awards on Sunday, Jan. 13, in Detroit.
During Jackson's 21-year career at Automotive News, her beats included General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Volkswagen/Audi and labor. She also was the editor of Automotive Marketer, a sister publication to Automotive News from 1999 to 2001. In 2003, she moved to Los Angeles to cover Asian brand automakers for Automotive News. She held that assignment until her retirement in 2010.
Before joining Automotive News, Jackson was a reporter for Crain's Detroit Business, also published by Crain Communications Inc. She started her career at radio station WXYZ in Detroit.
Jackson began a second career in 2011 when she opened Healthy Dollar, a dollar store in her hometown of Flint, Mich., that sells fresh fruits and vegetables.
