WUHAN, China -- PSA/Peugeot-Citroen's China venture, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile, sold 440,000 cars in 2012, an 8 percent increase from the previous year, China's Xinhua news service reported.

Dongfeng Peugeot, a 50-50 joint venture between PSA and Dongfeng Motor, is headquartered in Wuhan in central China's Hubei province.

In 2012, the partnership sold 223,800 Citroens and 216,200 Peugeots in China.

Dongfeng Peugeot has received a boost in sales from the Peugeot 408 sedan, which was launched in October. The joint venture also produces the Citroen Elysee, C2, C4 and C5, plus the Peugeot 207, 307, 308, and 508.

PSA also has a joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile in the south China city of Shenzhen. That venture will start producing the Citroen DS model line next summer.
