Alfa Romeo brand to re-enter U.S. market in late 2013

DETROIT (Reuters) -- Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has reiterated his intention to reintroduce the Alfa Romeo brand to the U.S. market later this year with the 4C coupe sports car.
"For sure it's coming back this year with the 4C. With the Alfa Romeo 4C," Marchionne said in Detroit on Friday. "We are finalizing the car now, so it should be here this year."
Increasing Alfa's sales is a cornerstone of Marchionne's plan to cut losses at Fiat in Europe by 2015.
The comments repeat those made by the CEO in April, when he said the rear-wheel-drive coupe would reach the U.S. market by the end of 2013. Marchionne added then that deliveries of the 4C, which will be built starting in May at a plant run by Fiat's Maserati division in Modena, Italy, will launch in Europe in the second half of this year.
Fiat, which plans to make 2,500 4Cs a year, showed a concept version of the car at the Geneva auto show in 2011.
