PSA-Dongfeng China JV aims for 14% sales growth in 2013
Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co., a 50-50 joint venture between PSA/Peugeot-Citroen and Dongfeng Motor Corp., expects to increase sales 14 percent this year to 500,000 units as the company's third Chinese assembly plant launches production.
The partnership's Wuhan plant, which will produce up to 300,000 units annually, will open later this year. The factory will raise the joint venture's total production capacity to 750,000 units.
To boost sales Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen will introduce three locally built models and upgrade other models, the company says.
The first new model, the Peugeot 3008 crossover, went on sale on Jan. 9.
The company did not provide further details on the other models to be launched this year.
Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen, which is headquartered in Wuhan in central China, sold 440,000 cars in China in 2012, an increase of 9 percent.
Aside from the Peugeot 3008, the joint venture produces the Peugeot 207, 307, 308, 408 and 508 as well as the Citroen Elysee, C2, C4 and C5.
PSA also has a joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. in the south China city of Shenzhen. That partnership will start producing the Citroen DS model line this summer.
