Mazda Europe names new chief information officer

FRANKFURT -- Mazda Motor Europe has promoted company veteran Alex Janssens to be the unit's first chief information officer.

Mazda Europe said it created the CIO post after it divided the information technology and business strategy duties of Vice President Steve Robertson.

Janssens' role will be to oversee all information systems related to strategy and operations at Mazda in Europe, the company said in a statement. Robertson remains in charge of business strategy.

Janssens, 47, joined Mazda Europe in 1991 as an accountant and has held various positions in the finance department of Mazda's European logistics arm. He most recently he was director of European financial services, where he handled accounting, purchasing, administration and treasury functions.

Janssens is a Mazda veteran.

Janssens will be succeeded in this role by Christine Plasmans.

A Belgian national, Janssens takes up his new post on March 1 and reports to Mazda Europe CEO Jeff Guyton.
