TURIN -- Pininfarina has created a concept car named Sergio to pay tribute to the company's longtime CEO Sergio Pininfarina. The car will be unveiled at next month's Geneva auto show.

Sergio Pininfarina, who died last July at age 85, ran the Pininfarina family's automotive design company for 40 years. During his tenure Pininfarina created some of the most famous cars of the second half of the 20th century including the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT and the 2003 Maserati Quattroporte production models and the 1968 Ferrari 250 P/5 concept.

Pininfarina issued a teaser image that hints at a mid-rear engine coupe whose engine hood is reminiscent of the Pininfarina Ferrari 512S Modulo unveiled at the 1970 Geneva show.

The Modulo was probably the most extreme concept car in Pininfarina's history. It was a milestone of Italian design and was awarded 22 international design prizes.

The Pininfarina Ferrari 512S Modulo concept had a black engine hood with circular holes for air recirculation

The Modulo featured a black engine hood with circular holes to allow air recirculation in the engine bay. The Sergio concept appears to use the same technical solution, but with holes of different sizes.

Pininfarina said it will disclose full details of the Geneva concept on March 5.
