TURIN -- Pininfarina has released a sketch of its Sergio concept car ahead of the rakish two-seat roadster's debut at the Geneva auto show on March 5. The car was created to pay tribute to longtime CEO Sergio Pininfarina. The street-legal barchetta has no windshield or side windows and its rollbar serves as a rear spoiler.

"With the Sergio model we reconnect to the fascinating and exciting world of two-seater barchettas," the company said in a statement. Barchettas often have been used in well-known road races such as the Mille Miglia in Italy and the Carrera Panamericana in Latin America.

Sergio Pininfarina, who died last July at 85, ran the Pininfarina family's automotive design company for 40 years. During his tenure Pininfarina created some of the most famous cars of the second half of the 20th century including the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT and the 2003 Maserati Quattroporte production models and the 1968 Ferrari 250 P/5 concept.

"This concept car renews the spirit and the values of the extraordinary achievements born under the leadership of Sergio Pininfarina, projecting them into the future in the name of exclusivity, innovation and passion," the company said.
