BMW details specifications for X4 ahead of New York debut
BMW has unveiled details and photos of its new X4 crossover with coupe styling. The vehicle is scheduled to make its world debut next month at the New York auto show, with production beginning this spring at BMW’s U.S. plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The X4, based on the technical blueprint of the X3, is 14mm (0.5 inches) longer, at 4671mm (184.3 inches), and 36mm (1.5 inches) lower than the X3, BMW said in a statement.
The X4 will be available in Europe with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a choice of three gasoline and three diesel engines, all available with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The entry model, the 4-cylinder 20d, will cost 45,600 euros in Germany when sales begin later this year.
The X4 will feature fuel-saving options including auto start stop and a coasting function in cars fitted with an automatic transmission. BMW will also offer reduced-rolling-resistance tires on the X4, which the automaker says will reduce the CO2 emissions of selected variants by 7 grams a kilometer.
