Bentley is using the upcoming Beijing auto show to reveal the Bentley Hybrid Concept. The car will preview the company's first plug-in model, with the powertrain expected in a Bentley SUV debuting in 2017.

The technology will be demonstrated in Beijing on the flagship Bentley Mulsanne.

Bentley says the system will offer a power increase of up to 25 percent, while reducing CO2 emissions by 70 percent. The hybrids will also be able to drive up to 50km (31 miles) on electric power alone.

The concept will feature a handful of copper accents to evoke the car's electrical veins, with details on the headlights, radiator shell, brake calipers and badges. Inside, the accents will continue with copper veneers and gauge bezels.

"There is no doubt that plug-in hybrid technology is true to Bentley's values of outstanding luxury and effortless performance," Bentley CEO Wolfgang Schreiber said in a statement. "Combining our renowned engines with electric power reinforces and enhances both principles, and so we will gradually introduce this powertrain across our model range."

Schreiber said at least 90 percent of Bentley production will be available as a plug-in hybrid by the end of the decade.

The Hybrid Concept will join the Bentley Flying Spur V8 making its Chinese debut, the new Continental GT Speed and the Continental GT V8.
