Bentley first-half sales up 23% on China, Middle East

BERLIN -- Bentley Motors increased six-month vehicle sales by almost a quarter on demand from China and the Middle East, keeping the brand on track for another record year.

Global deliveries rose 23 percent to 5,254, compared with 4,279 in the first half year of 2013, Bentley said today in a statement.

Sales increased 61 percent in China to 1,318 boosted by the success of the Flying Spur and Flying Spur V8, Bentley said. Middle East volume increased 27 percent to 537 units.

In its Americas region, Bentley’s No. 1 market, the brand delivered 1,388 cars, up 8 percent. European sales rose 11 percent to 835.

"There's no question that some markets will remain tough but we are confident of a good 2014," Bentley sales chief Kevin Rose said.

Bentley, bought by Volkswagen in 1998, posted the highest sales and profit in the manufacturer's 95-year history in 2013.
