Volvo XC60 spy photosTue, 21, Jun 2016
Volvo’s clever plastic cladding – complete with pseudo bullet holes – is disguising next year’s redesigned XC60 midsize crossover. The next XC60 will be the third revamped crossover in Volvo’s lineup – joining the larger XC90 that went on sale last year and the XC40 compact crossover that debuts late this year. The XC60 uses Volvo’s scalable product architecture that is designed for gasoline engines as well as plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains. The XC60’s styling is well disguised so it’s hard to tell whether the crossover will look radically different than today’s model. But based on the latest XC90 and the 40.1 concept that previews the XC40, look for styling touches such as an updated, elongated grille, a more angular body and headlamps featuring Thor's hammer. Inside, it will undoubtedly feature Volvo’s touch and swipe screen controls. Advanced safety technology such as semi-autonomous features and large animal detection may also trickle down to the XC60.

Ford Focus RS500 spy photosMon, 27, Jun 2016
The Ford Focus RS500 has been caught testing in Germany -- confirming reports of a lighter, more powerful and more hardcore version of the all-wheel-drive Focus RS hatchback that was just launched. The RS500 could shed up to 220 pounds over the standard RS, and appears to wear more aggressive bodywork in its quest to be a track star. Power from the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine might not be much more than the 350 hp in the standard Focus RS, but it could provide noticeably better performance if creature comforts such as power seats, rear seats and some sound deadening are omitted. There's a chance the RS500 could even gain a dual-clutch automated transmission in lieu of the six-speed manual. It is expected to be launched in Europe in 2017 but is not slated for North America at this time.
2018 Mercedes-AMG GT RMon, 27, Jun 2016
The newest member of Mercedes-Benz's AMG GT family -- the AMG GT-R -- represents the latest performance engineering learned from the road-going GT and GT-S coupes and race-ready GT3. The hand-built DOHC 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 powering the GT-R sits in same mid-front position as the rest of the GT lineup, but churns out 74 hp more than the current top-performing GT-S. The bump in power brings the GT-R's total output to 577 hp. The two turbos spool to a maximum speed of 186,000 revolutions per minute and stop building boost at 19.6 psi. That air is then rushed through liquid-to-air intercoolers before it’s stuffed into the engine. Power is delivered to the rear 20-inch lightweight aluminum wheels by way of a seven-speed dual clutch transaxle. Nestled inside the transaxle is also a much-needed limited slip differential. Mercedes says the car is expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships by mid-2017.
