RASTATT, Germany - Johnson Controls Inc. will operate the largest on-site supplier operation at Rastatt. Its staff of 190 will assemble 800 seat sets a day for the A class.
JCI will receive components up to 10 times a day from 32 Tier 2 suppliers: 28 in Germany, two in the Czech Republic and one each in Luxembourg and Austria. In turn, JCI will deliver the seats in sequence to the assembly line.
The supplier has no warehouse at Rastatt, and its own stock is managed through what it calls a 'warehouse on wheels.' Parts are delivered direct from trailers.
JCI invested DM8 million ($5 million) to equip its 4,800 square meter area of the supplier park for its first large Mercedes-Benz seating contract. The company also won contracts for the future S class and the new SL.
