Peugeot has the right idea for the next generation 605 - rely on the company's core engineering strength.
For Peugeot that means chassis refinement. Peugeot engineers are masters of taut, perfect ride and handling, as shown by the 406. Even direct competitors admit this, though not for the record.
The 605 has been a major sales disappointment. There is doubt about whether 'make-everything' Peugeot should participate in the prestige segment against German luxury-car specialists.
But Peugeot can engineer its way into the class if it also improves quality and brightens the design. The 605 successor must look less like the 406 than the 605 looks like the 405.
Is it worth the effort on such a low volume car?
Yes. Success in the upper segment benefits to the entire lineup. Just look how Audi has built its brand from the top down.
