AMBERG, Germany - Interior systems supplier Grammer AG has begun producing head rests at BMW's Wackersdorf industrial park.
Grammer is the sole supplier of head rests to BMW's next-generation 3 series, due in early 1998. Grammer intends to make arm rests and side cushions for BMW and other carmakers.
The 4,050 square meter facility will have capacity for three million parts a year. It will employ up to 100 staff. Grammer has invested DM4.5 million ($2.65 million) in the plant.
The company's automotive sales rose 26 percent in 1996 to DM178 million ($119 million). Sales to carmakers have tripled in the past three years. They now represent the majority of the company's sales.
