Honda's new small sport-utility will go on sale across Europe starting this month. It will be available in most markets by September.
Honda plans to sell 20,000 units of its Compact Recreational Vehicle in Europe in 1998 and 30,000 in 1999.
The CRV's 2.0-liter, 128ps engine is mated with a 'real time' four-wheel-drive transmission. In normal highway conditions only the front wheels are driven.
The four-speed automatic transmission uses Honda's Grade Logic control system. Grade Logic senses driving conditions and chooses from among six shift patterns.
Prices for the CRV will be $27,500-$29,000. Power steering, antilock brakes, twin airbags and power windows are standard.
The cargo area has a power socket. Options include a refrigerator, shower hose and power hoist for lifting bicycles onto the roof.
