Lear Corp. is negotiating to buy Goodyear's plastic instrument panel plant in Logan, Ohio, US.
Lear has made instrument panels one of the five markets it will concentrate on. It bought European instrument panel supplier Borealis Industrier last December.
Lear Chairman Ken Way said Goodyear's technology would be used in Borealis Industrier's products.
But Way admitted that 'legal issues' had still to be resolved before it could buy the Goodyear plant.
The Logan plant makes instrument panels for Ford's Taurus and Mercury Sable and for General Motors' Oldsmobile Cutlass and Chevrolet Malibu.
