Toyota (gb) Tadao Kobayashi, currently executive director of Toyota (gb), will succeed Trevor Taylor as chairman. Toyota Motor Corp. will take majority control of Toyota (gb), effective 1 January 1998, from Inchcape Toyota Division, which distributes Toyota cars in 11 markets around the world. Taylor is cheif executive of Inchcape Toyota Division, and will remain a non-executive director of Toyota (gb).
GM DO BRASIL - Jose Carlos Pinheiro Neto, director of corporate affairs, has also been appointed export director. He has been responsible for exports since 1989. Neto started with GM in 1970 as a lawyer.
LEAR CORP. - Paul Taafe has been made vice president for finance for Europe. He will be based in Frankfurt. Taafe was previously finance and operations director for Nike Central Europe, the sportswear manufacturer.
MERCEDES-BENZ (UK) - Bruce Whitfield will join the company early next year as director of commercial vehicles. He is currently dealer principle at the Rygor Commercials dealership in Swindon, UK. John Baker will join as general marketing manager for heavy commercial vehicles. He is currently marketing director of MAN Truck and Bus UK Ltd.
FEBMA - The Federation of European Bearing Manufacturers' Association has elected Maurice Amiel of Timken as president, to succeed Mauritz Sahlin of SKF. Lorenz Raith of INA was elected vice president, and Hartmut Rauen of VDMA as general secretary of FEBMA.
JOHNSON CONTROLS INC. -Rande Somma has been promoted to president of interior trim marketing and business development. Brian Koop replaced him as vice president and general manager of interior trim. Mike Johnson has been named president of the North America Automotive Group. He previously managed JCI's interior systems and battery businesses. He retains responsibility for batteries. John Fiori is now president of the Europe and Emerging Markets Automotive Group. He was previously president for European and Asian operations. James Pell has been appointed group vice president and general manager of worldwide component operations.
CHRYSLER JEEP IMPORTS UK LTD. - Brian Rees has been appointed public relations manager. He performed a similar role at ferry company Stena Line.
VOLVO - Anders Hellman has been appointed president of Volvo's new IT company. Volvo Information Technology Center will start operating 1 January 1998. He will leave his current position of president of Volvo Penta Corp. on 1 December.
JAGUAR DAIMLER HERITAGE TRUST - Howard Davies has been appointed as the trust's first general manager. He was previously manager of Jaguar's XJ220 program. Davies heads an expanded team of four archive and vehicle specialists, who look after the trust's collection of 110 cars. Businessman Allen Lloyd has been named president of the trust.
