European car sales rose 10.4 percent in November, compared with the same month last year.
Over half the additional sales in Europe were accounted for by Italy, which was up 44.2 percent.
The other big gain was in the UK, which rose 12.6 percent.
All the French carmakers outperformed the 7.0 percent rise in the French market. November 1996 sales were low following the end of government scrapping incentives.
Germany was down 2.0 percent. Ireland doubled its sales, and Finland rose 11.7 percent.
