Telco, India's largest truckmaker, moved into two popular car segments at Auto Expo '98, Delhi's big biennial auto show. Telco showed its $6,300 Tata Small Car, which will be built in a new factory in Pune, India, starting in late 1998. Power is from a 1.4-liter 60hp or 65hp gasoline or 53hp diesel engine. At 3660mm, it is slightly longer than the Ford Ka. Tata also launched a $21,300 sport-utility, the Tata Safari, with a 2.0-liter, 90hp turbodiesel engine, and a vehicle in its main segment, an over-the-road 40-tonne-tractor with a 209hp Cummins diesel.
