OSLO - Hyundai has high hopes for its first minicar, the Atos, which is being introduced in Europe this month.
Hyundai hopes to sell close to 44,000 Atos. If its total sales match last year's 158,586 units, the new Atos will represent 28 percent of Hyundai's volume.
The largest market for Hyundai in Europe in 1997 was Italy with 27,883 cars. Its largest share was in Greece, where it had 7.6 percent of the market with 12,170 cars sold.
Norway is the only European market that will not see the Atos. The importer, Kolberg Motors, said margins are too low to make it worth bringing to the Norwegian market.
