PARIS - Speed has been the obsession of PSA Chairman Jean-Martin Folz ince he became chairman last autumn.
'To satisfy our customers and to improve the group's profitability, two things must dwell in our minds: solidarity and rapidity,' he said on 21 January to his top managers.
This obsession can explain why the current reorganization is focusing on the product development, engineering and manufacturing areas of the company.
'Folz is addressing first the main problems. He is going straight to the point. The commercial side is not the top priority for the moment,' said Patrice Solaro, auto analyst with Cheuvreux de Virieu Indosuez Capital brokerage firm in Paris.
To bring new models more quickly to the market means to reduce lead times. Folz has merged product engineering with manufacturing engineering. He united purchasing and engineering, to get the benefit of close contacts with suppliers.
It is not by chance that several plant managers or manufacturing people are now heads of the platforms and engineering departments.
