MONTE CARLO - Hyundai plans to introduce two modern direct-injection diesel engines over the next two years.
Sources said a 2.0-liter diesel is planned for the Lantra compact car and a Lantra-based minivan. They said it was designed by FFV Institute in Aachen, Germany.
This fall, Hyundai will begin production of a 2.5-liter diesel for light trucks. It was designed with help from AVL in Graz, Austria.
Europe is now the biggest diesel market, said Hyundai marketing director Lee Hyoung-keun, but 'in the coming century the diesel will play a more important part as a car engine in Korea, too.'
