KIEV - Ukrainian officials have yielded to Daewoo's demand to effectively ban imported used cars, but Daewoo's $1.3 billion deal with Zaporizhya's AvtoZAZ car factory has still not been finalized. The ban would protect Daewoo's market.
Western analysts say Daewoo may have trouble coming up with the money, but a Daewoo executive who asked not to be named said, 'We have the resources. After all, it is not $1 billion all at once.'
Nikolai Lastovetsky, AvtoZAZ assistant general director for investment, said, 'We expect to announce the signing of the joint venture's preliminary documents at the end of April.
'We want to believe they have the money.'
