The BMW dinner tonight at the lovely Batiment Forces Motrices. BMW, makers of V-12 engines, might announce the purchase of Rolls-Royce, customer of V-12 engines. Officials in high places say no way. Vickers says that it won't sell Rolls until the end of the month. But the buzz says look for a surprise at the BMW dinner, and everyone's already heard about the 3 series.
The introduction of the Silver Seraph on Rolls' outsized stand today at 1: 30 p.m. Everybody will be watching.
Ratan Tata, chairman of India's Tata group, invading Europe with a new sport utility and supermini. Also on the stand: Miss World, Diana Hayden. 3 p.m.
Breakfast at Ford, 8 a.m. The new Escort is radical.
Evening on Volkswagen's boat on Lake Leman. The boat is always hot. Drinks, snacks and gossip abound. Chairman Piech generally arrives and leaves early.
