MADRID - Jose Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua is continuing to regain strength and health after his January auto accident, but progress is slow.
Doctors at the Bilbao area clinic where he is hospitalized predict that he could be 100 percent physically and mentally OK by next September, according to sources close to Lopez.
Doctors say that being in hospital rather than home facilitates the recovery process. Lopez is permanently accompanied in the hospital by his wife and close relatives.
The sources say Lopez has gaps in his memory following the accident although his recall is improving. They say he is perfectly capable of sustaining a normal conversation.
Lopez was a passenger in an Audi 80 that struck a slow-moving truck. Though he wore a seatbelt, he suffered head injuries.
