JIM DONALDSON, president of Ford of Europe, was interviewd by Georg Auer.
What are your plans for putting Ford of Europe right?
I am very glad that the new car is named the Focus as this is the word I have been using the most over the past months.
We have to focus on continuity. We have to find the equivalent of the continuity of the Ford Transit in cars.
Then we have to believe in ourselves and have to get things done. There is a time for analysis, a time for discussions but now is the time to do things.
What will happen to European dealers? In the USA you are concentrating dealerships.
Profitability of dealerships is very low. We had 3,000 dealers here from all over Europe and we pointed out that not only technology and product have to change, but also distribution, marketing and sales.
We have to get dealers with a higher volume who can build up customer satisfaction all over Europe.
