TURIN - Hyundai's fourth-generation car shares its basic platform with the previous car, but features new engines, including Hyundai's own 2.5-liter, 160hp V-6, which replaces the Mitsubishi V-6 used previously.
The car moved upmarket, but Hyundai hopes to price it about the same as the old car. Features include four-speed automatic transmission, ABS, traction control on the V-6, dual airbags, and optional side-bags on the V-6.
The car has all-new multi-link suspension developed for the Hyundai Coupe.
Hyundai brought the Sonata to the Turin auto show for its world introduction. It will go on sale in all major European markets in September and in the USA late this year or early next.
Hyundai aims at sales of 190,000 units this year, up from 163,000 in 1997.
