The next Kappa may use some of the space frame technology that is being used in the Fiat Multipla. 'Not to such a wide extent' as the Multipla, said Mike Robinson, Lancia's chief designer, but in certain areas, 'possibly the sills.'

Yaris could get Cargo version
The Toyota Funtime Cargo, one of three concepts developed from the Toyota Yaris program for the Frankfurt show last autumn, was back on the stand at Turin. The car will probably be made.
'The coupe has been abandoned,' said Elena Orsini, a spokeswoman for Toyota Italy. 'The Cargo is not approved, but it would come soon after the Yaris.' Yaris sales are scheduled to begin in 1999.
Steel wheel for a supercar
The steel industry is fighting back against lighter, more expensive materials even in the supercar category, where price means nothing. Fergat SpA of Turin developed a two-part, lightweight steel wheel for Leonardo Fioravanti's F100 concept car, built to celebrate the centenary of Enzo Ferrari's birth in 2000.
VW is 'just looking'
Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech spent about 30 minutes with Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign, which built Volkswagen's W-12 sports cars. Piech asked many questions about the Structura, a concept minivan with an exterior frame and see-through door panels. Was he thinking about making a deal?
'No,' Piech said, 'I'm just looking.'
Heuliez may work for Alfa Romeo
According to industry sources, the French coachbuilder and partsmaker Heuliez may work for Alfa Romeo on a new model. It could be the next Alfa 156 station wagon. Neither Heuliez nor Alfa Romeo would comment. Heuliez currently makes Citroen Xantia and XM wagons, but the contract with PSA will end in 2002.
Dialogos was a team effort
Lancia's Dialogos luxury concept was a team effort. Chief Lancia designer Mike Robinson accepted the congratulations for the car, but he revealed that the grille design was ordered changed five days earlier by Fiat Auto President Roberto Testore. The new grille arrived at 7: 45 a.m. on the morning the show opened, 45 minutes before the press arrived.
2+2 Smart planned
Micro Compact Car plans a Smart derivative that will seat two adults and two children. Sources say the 2+2 Smart will be nearly 3500mm long. The two-seater that will go on sale this autumn is 2500mm.
