NASHVILLE, Tennesee - Nine suppliers to the Mercedes-Benz ML320 in Alabama will spend a combined $50 million to increase their output, says Andreas Renschler, chief executive of Mercedes-Benz US International Inc.
Daimler has raised its goal from 65,000 ML320 sport-utilities annually to 80,000.
The plant uses only 65 Tier 1 suppliers. The engine and transmission are imported from Germany, but 65 percent of the content is North American.
Fourteen of the Tier 1 suppliers deliver to the plant in sequential order, with parts directed to specific vehicles that are in production. Four more suppliers will begin delivering sequentially this year.
