'As long as it's black...'
HENRY FORD FAMOUSLY said customers could have 'any color as long as it's black.' US customers for the Cougar have a choice of 10 colors. But European customers can have their Cougar in black, blue or silver when the car goes on sale this summer. Ford of Britain Marketing Director Paddy Byrne said Ford's initial European strategy is to offer 'only the three grown-up colors - and not red, because we want to avoid a boy-racer image.'
ABSOLUTE SECRECY was a priority for Chrysler and Daimler-Benz during their merger negotiations. Daimler made its executives sign a special agreement. The piece of paper 'said that we promised not to speak to anyone about what we were doing,' confided one Daimler executive, 'not even to our wives.'
