DuPont awarded QS-9000
TROY, Michigan - All the plants operated by DuPont Automotive OEM Finishes have now achieved QS-9000 certification. The last unit to gain the certificate was the Mount Clemens factory in Michigan, the world's largest automotive finishes plant.
Germans win environment prizes
RASTATT, Germany - Duerr Systems, BASF Coatings and Daimler-Benz jointly won first prize for Environmentally Friendly Technologies from the German industry association BDI. The companies developed a coating system for the A-class at Daimler's Rastatt plant that reduces emissions, uses less energy and cuts paint consumption by 20 percent.
Herberts takes Chinese supplier
WUPPERTAL, Germany - Hoechst subsidiary Herberts has taken majority control of a Beijing-based automotive coatings supplier. The previous shareholders, Netherlands-based Akzo Nobel Coatings and Beijing Red Lion, will now hold 25 percent and 24 percent respectively. Herberts has 51 percent. The company will continue to be run by its Chinese management team. Hoechst has three other automotive joint ventures in China.
Bosal opens Austrian facility
VIENNA - Bosal has opened a distribution and sales center outside Vienna to handle supplies to both carmakers and the aftermarket. Christopher Mader has been appointed managing director of the facility.
Phoenix sales rise
HAMBURG, Germany - Phoenix AG announced earnings up 16 percent to DM36 million ($20 million) for 1997 on sales that rose 7 percent to DM1.6 billion. Phoenix makes vibration-control parts, insulation and hose.
