NUNEATON, UK - UK research company MIRA will open a $1.6 million wet handling circuit in September at its Nuneaton site.
Jaguar, Rover, Nissan, Honda and tiremaker Dunlop have bought test time on the circuit in advance in order to help finance the facility.
The circuit will be used to develop and test tires, braking systems, traction-control systems, suspension and chassis designs and steering systems in wet conditions.
More than 400 track-side sprinklers will be installed. They will draw on surface-water reservoirs, and all water will be recycled.
