Ts-Tec in Brazil
SAO PAULO - TS-Tec, a Honda subsidiary making suspension components, will build an $11 million plant to supply the Honda Civic.
Dana buys Nakata
SAO PAULO - Dana Corp. has acquired 33 percent of the shares in Nakata, a suspension supplier. Nakata has three plants in Brazil and one in Argentina.
Kolbenschmidt oil and water
DUESSELDORF, Germany -Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG will integrate its oil and water pump operations, with pump production being concentrated at Pierburg. The two companies merged on 22 January.
In order to concentrate pump production, Pierburg AG has acquired SEM, a joint venture owned by the former Kolbenschmidt AG and Piaggio Pro-Ind SpA. SEM has plants at Thionville, France, and Lanciano, Italy. The plants' combined 1997 sales were DM200 million ($109 million).
Hella's US plant
LIPPSTADT, Germany - Lighting and electronics supplier Hella has opened a plant in Plymouth, Michigan, in the USA to produce air conditioning and central-locking control systems. Hella has more than 30 plants in 18 countries.
Pilkington wins award
BIRMINGHAM, UK - Pilkington Automotive has received a Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) supplier award for making cost cuts through process improvements. The award follows quality and cost commendations the previous year.
Rieter licenses Hirotani
WINTERTHUR, Switzerland - Rieter Automotive Systems has licensed Malaysian partsmaker Hirotani (M) Sdn.Bhd to make acoustic products. Hirotani is the leading Malaysian sheet metal manufacturer and supplies several vehicle assemblers.
