BMW should consider going ahead with a deal to supply engines to Rolls-Royce, even though Volkswagen will buy Rolls.
If the deal made good business sense before then it probably still does. VW will get engines from someplace, why not from BMW?
That is how things are in the modern auto indus-try.
BMW and Chrysler have a joint engine-production venture in Brazil, even though Chrysler will merge with BMW's main rival.
It is a worldwide web of auto entanglements.
Indeed, some of the rub-off prestige that Volkswagen paid a premium for would come back to BMW if its engines power Rolls and Bentley cars.
And BMW would be paid for the privilege, not the other way around.
